The time away from the court did a lot of good things for the Philadelphia 76ers. One of those things was to rest up from any injuries that were ailing the team heading into the suspension on March 11. With a fully healthy team, the Sixers feel confident heading down to Orlando for the league restart.
The time off did give guys time to think as well. For Josh Richardson, it gave him some time to think about his next contract as well. He doesn’t hit free agency until possibly 2021 as he has an $11.6 million player option for the 2021-22 season and he will have to make a decision on that option when the time comes.
However, he also does maintain that he is focused on this upcoming playoff run and helping Philadelphia bring home a title.
“I thought about all of that and I know next year is going to be a big year,” he admitted. “For now, my focus is really just on Orlando and bring a title back because I think we have a good shot at it, but we’ll cross that bridge once we get there.”
Richardson’s ability to put the ball on the floor as well as handle it and run the pick-and-roll with Ben Simmons is important for the team’s chances. Their chemistry was something impressive before the season suspension and if they can get back on the same page in Orlando, it will be something special for Philadelphia down the stretch.
The contract decision in 2021 will be something to worry about when the time comes, but for now, the Sixers have their eyes on a championship run. [lawrence-related id=34303,34291,34283]
