49ers cornerback Josh Norman left Sunday night’s game against the Packers with what was classified as a chest injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday told reporters Norman suffered a lung contusion and will be day-to-day.
Fluid in Norman’s lungs prompted the precautionary overnight hospital stay. Shanahan indicated Norman could practice Wednesday, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready by Sunday’s showdown with the Seahawks.
Norman played in 30 snaps Sunday night and was targeted twice for one yard and a touchdown according to Pro Football Focus. He also added a tackle and a forced fumble.
If Norman is unavailable against Seattle, the 49ers have Dontae Johnson, Deommodore Lenoir, Dre Kirkpatrick and Ambry Thomas who could all conceivably start across from Emmanuel Moseley. Cornerback Davontae Harris is expected to come off Injured Reserve this week as well.
