Josh Heupel provides update on center Cooper Mays

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel provides update on center Cooper Mays during fall camp.

Tennessee held its first scrimmage during fall training camp at Neyland Stadium on Thursday.

Third-year head coach Josh Heupel met with media following the scrimmage.

He discussed senior center Cooper Mays.

“Cooper had a minor procedure late yesterday, and he’ll be back and healthy as we get closer to kickoff,” Heupel said. “I anticipate that being a couple-week deal.

“Today, we rotated through a bunch of guys like Ollie (Lane), Parker Ball, Vysen (Lang) and Addison Nichols. Those guys are all competing for those spots. All of those guys have taken some reps, even when Cooper was here too, as we continue to look for that backup center spot.”

Mays started 13 games at center for the Vols in 2022. He played and started in eight games at center during the 2021 campaign, while appearing in 10 contests and two starts at center as a freshman in 2020.
