Pat Summitt served as the Lady Vols’ women’s basketball head coach from 1974-2012, compiling a 1,098–208 record.
Summitt won eight national championships, 16 Southeastern Conference regular-season titles, 16 SEC Tournament championships, while advancing to the NCAA Tournament Final Four 18 times.
Tennessee football will honor Summitt on Saturday by wearing Summitt Blue accessories against UConn.
Ahead of Saturday’s homecoming matchup, third-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed Summitt’s legacy.
“Obviously, the success that her program had underneath her watch, it’s something that’s recognized nationally,” Heupel said. “I think one of the most pointed things that I could remember in my short time here about coach Summitt is the stories of the people that she impacted not associated with Tennessee women’s basketball. Everybody that has come into contact with her has a great story about how she impacted the people around her and enriched the lives of the people around her. She had a great impact on the court, but she had more impact off the court. It’s a really powerful legacy.”
