Josh Heupel discusses if Hendon Hooker will be Tennessee’s starting quarterback moving forward.

Tennessee (1-1) lost to Pittsburgh (2-0), 41-34, in the Johnny Majors Classic on Saturday.

Joe Milton III started for the Vols, completing 7-of-12 passes for 50 yards. He totaled 54 rushing yards on five attempts against the Panthers.

Milton III did not play in the second half due to an apparent lower leg injury.

Hendon Hooker replaced Milton III. He completed 15-of-21 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Hooker totaled 49 rushing yards on nine attempts.

Following the contest, first-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed if Hooker would be the Vols’ starting quarterback moving forward.

“We’re going to go back and look at the tape and evaluate everybody,” Heupel said. “We’ll evaluate the quarterback position as well, but we’ll evaluate everyone and how they played so that may be more opportunities for guys, and some of it may just be cleaning up some things that they can control and be better at.”
