Josh Heupel details officials wanting a rule change for injured players, mandatory cooling off period

Josh Heupel details officials wanting a rule change for injured players and a mandatory cooling off period before returning to the game.

Tennessee (7-6, 4-4 SEC) lost to Purdue (9-4, 6-3 Big Ten), 48-45 in overtime, Thursday in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl.

Following the game, first-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel met with media and discussed if there should be some kind of mandatory cooling off period for injured players before returning to the game.

“The officials wanted that tonight,” Heupel said. “I thought that was pretty comical they came up to me and said that.”

Heupel was then asked if officials said if they wanted a rule change.

“Yeah,” Heupel said. “They think there needs to be a rule change.”
