Josh Henson gives update on USC offensive line, including battle for left tackle spot

The USC offensive line is a key point of focus heading into Week 1. O-line coach Josh Henson provided an update on the unit’s progress.

The USC offensive line is expected to be good … but if an injury occurs, USC’s foundation for success might be shaken in a city which knows the power of earthquakes all too well.

As the Trojans prepare for Week 1 of the 2022 season against Rice, offensive line coach Josh Henson told USC’s 247Sports site about the latest developments up front:

“I want that sense of urgency to be all the time. We’ve had a good sense of urgency so far over the last couple practices here. We’ve got to work on being more consistent. But that’s what we’re working on. I think the big thing standing out now it’s just how important all the little details are. The closer you get to game time, the little things become big things when you make a mistake in the game, and just focusing in and really getting down to every little detail and mastering all the details. So that’s what we’re continuing to practice.”

Here’s what Henson said about the left tackle competition between presumed favorite Courtland Ford and Virginia transfer Bobby Haskins:

“Yeah, it’s still playing out. I’m not sure that it won’t play out until through the (Rice) game. And that may be something we do. Maybe both guys will play? I don’t know. But that’s kind of where I’m at right now. No one has really separated themselves at that spot and no one has really got themselves behind. We’re just kind of one day one guy’s better one day the next guy’s a little better which is a good thing. We’re in a heck of a battle. So that may get decided through gameplay also.”

“Both guys are in there working. Both do a really good job. They’re good communicators. They know what they’re doing. They work well and Vorhees beside them is a very veteran guy so it’s not been an issue.”
