Ten years ago, the landscape of college football changed when the era of playoff era began. Instead of the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) selecting the top two teams to play for the National Championship, the top four teams would play a mini-tournament to determine who the champs would be.
With the format changing next season to a 12-team playoff, ESPN decided to take a look back an select an all-playoff era team. The players would be the best of the ten year period with the four-team playoff.
While the Kentucky Wildcats aren’t a football powerhouse, they did have one representative on the all-playoff era team. They also had one honorable mention.
Josh Allen wasn’t a highly sought after recruit out of high school. He was rated two stars, and he wound up choosing Kentucky as one of the few schools that showed interest.
At Kentucky, he would become a star, and in 2018, he would break out. In his final season, he recorded 17 sacks and 21.5 tackles for a loss. This propelled him to being a top 10 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
ESPN placed Allen as a third-team member of the all-playoff era team, which is high praise. It’s also worth mentioning that former punter Max Duffy was an honorable mention for the team as well.
