Jordan Love hits deep ball to Christian Watson on first day back at training camp

After a rusty start, Jordan Love got going fast — with the highlight play coming on a deep ball connection to Christian Watson.

A rusty return to training camp didn’t last long for Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. On his first day back after missing four consecutive practices while negotiating a new contract, Love struggled to get going early in 11-on-11 work. But once he hit a few passes and settled in, Love heated up in a hurry, with the highlight play coming on a deep ball to Christian Watson that kickstarted a two-minute touchdown drive.

According to Mike Spofford of Packers.com, Watson got behind cornerback Eric Stokes on a go route and Love threw the perfect ball — creating a 47-yard gain to open a two-minute situation for the offense.

“To be able to hit him in stride and him make that play, it felt good to connect on that first day back, for sure,” Love said.

Love, now the $220 million quarterback, finished the drive with a touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs.

After a 1-for-8 start with an interception, Love finished 11-for-20 passing.

Watson said the throw from Love to open the two-minute was a “dot.”

Both Watson and Love said they sensed the coverage would be sitting on a short or intermediate route. When the defense played a single-high safety and Watson won vs. Stokes off the line of scrimmage, the big play opportunity opened up — and Love didn’t miss.

“It’s huge. It’s a blessing to have 10 back out there on the field,” Watson said. “It feels great to have him out there, start back and build something special.”
