Jagger Jones will make his return to Indy NXT with the HMD Motorsports team at the Mid-Ohio event in July.
The son of IndyCar and IMSA veteran PJ Jones and grandson of the late Indianapolis 500 winner Parnelli Jones made his NXT debut in 2023, but the season was filled with adversity, which led to a race-winning move to IMSA’s VP Sports Car Challenge series this year. Signing with HMD, the back-to-back NXT title winners, presents the 21-year-old with a great chance to show his full talent.
“I am pleased to be partnering with Adriel Foster Care to help promote their campaign of finding new foster parents,” Jones said of his sponsor. “Indy NXT is the stepping-stone to the NTT IndyCar Series and I’m excited to be back with a championship winning team, HMD Motorsports. I’ve had a lot of success in sports car racing this year, and I am looking to bring that momentum to Mid-Ohio.”
HMD general manager Mike Maurini is excited to add Jones to the team for a one-off appearance, and if Jones can find more backing, doing more races are possible.
“Jagger is no slouch behind the wheel of a race car and proved that in his USF2000 results, and then making the jump straight to Indy NXT,” Maurini said. “He has been active in other cars this season and winning races, so we are all confident that he will be a valuable addition to our program for Mid-Ohio.”
