This week’s New Orleans Saints game will feature a fan-favorite voice on the broadcast: retired Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma, the Super Bowl XLIV legend who was hired by Fox Sports earlier this year. He’ll offer color commentary in the booth next to veteran play-by-play man Kenny Albert, with sideline reporter Shannon Spake sharing insight from the field.
Vilma previously worked Week 4’s game between the Saints and Detroit Lions, a 35-29 victory that sparked New Orleans’ 8-game winning streak. So here’s hoping he brings some of that good luck with him, though Vilma will surely remain professional up in the booth. Surely.
He’s taken pride in his role in the Saints-Falcons rivalry before; Vilma’s teams went 6-3 against Atlanta during his tenure, including a memorable 45-16 washout late in the 2011 season, when his defense helped put Drew Brees in position to surpass Dan Marino for the NFL’s single-season passing yards record. Maybe he’ll have some anecdotes to share about that.
