Jonah Coleman has become a role model and leader at Washington

Jonah Coleman has developed into one of Washington’s most important players both on and off the field.

“If I could describe Jonah Coleman in one word, it would be loyal,” coach Jedd Fisch told the Big Ten Network.

When Fisch made the move from Arizona to take the head coaching job with the Washington Huskies, the running back was the first person to follow his coaching staff. Now a junior, Coleman has developed into one of his best players on the field, and one of his most influential leaders off it.

“He’s been an unbelievable player to coach,” Fisch said. “Other people follow him because of how hard he works. My job as a coach is to allow our guys to be themselves. We do things right, and Jonah has a 4.0 GPA. If he wants to wear some chains with a 4.0, I’m all good with it.”

That combination of leadership and swagger has helped rally Washington’s brand-new team around him. Coleman has also inspired them with his play on the field, as he has been one of the best running backs in the Big Ten through his first four weeks.

He is averaging 6.6 yards per carry, tallying 373 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground, adding 101 receiving yards on 12 catches. Coleman has developed into the focal point of Washington’s offense and looks like he is only getting stronger as the season progresses.
