[autotag]Jon Jones[/autotag] has built a reputation for tweeting and deleting.
Friday night, Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC) was back at it. Electing to tell the world how he really feels, the UFC light heavyweight champion responded to recent comments by former title challenger [autotag]Anthony Smith[/autotag].
“Anthony If you’re going to leave your garage door open all night, hurry up and (buy) the family a gun, some mace or something,” Jones wrote. “A douche bag more like me could’ve completely had his way with you all night, that could’ve been bad for everyone.”
Minutes after the tweet, Jones told Twitter “Get your screenshots, here comes the delete,” followed by “This is my favorite part.”
All of this is in reference to a recent home invasion incident at Smith’s house in Omaha, Neb. On April 5, Smith (33-14 MMA, 9-5 UFC) subdued a trespasser who entered his home in the middle of the night. The suspect was arrested upon entry by law enforcement.
Shortly thereafter, Smith opened up about the incident. He mentioned how the intruder was surprisingly strong and absorbed his best punches.
The comment opened the door for Jones, who said he would have beaten the intruder worse had it happened to him. In an interview with Sirius XM, Smith responded to Jones, calling him a “(expletive) douche bag.” This incited Friday’s tweet from Jones.
In March 2019, Jones and Smith headlined UFC 235 against one another. After five rounds, Jones took a unanimous decision.
