[autotag]Jon Jones[/autotag] has addressed his recent arrest in Las Vegas.
Last Friday, Jones was arrested by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on charges of misdemeanor battery domestic violence and felony tampering with a vehicle. He posted bail on Friday and was released from custody.
Tuesday afternoon, disturbing details surrounding the incident were revealed as MMA Junkie obtained a copy of the police report. Tuesday evening, the former UFC light heavyweight champion took to social media to address the incident publicly for the first time.
Jones posted a video to his Instagram story of himself lifting weights with Randy Newman’s song “You’ve got a friend in me” playing in the background. Also included on the video were five overlayed quotes, including a promise to stop drinking.
The statements placed over the video read as follows:
“I have way too much trauma to consume alcohol, my brain simply can’t handle it anymore. I will leave alcohol in my past forever.”
“Turn this nightmare into the best thing to ever happen in my life”
“Now is the time to work harder than ever”
“What the devil means for bad, God means for good.”
“Get right back on my horse.”
It is unclear if the video of Jones lifting weights was recorded on Tuesday or at an earlier date.
Jones’ arrest occurred just hours after being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame for his first fight against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165. Prior to his induction, Jones spoke to the media about training consistently for the first time in his career as he prepared for a move to the heavyweight division.
The arrest in Las Vegas was the most recent of a number of legal troubles for Jones. His past legal woes include a hit-and-run in April 2015, a traffic stop for drag racing in March 2016, pleading no contest to a battery charge in September 2019, and multiple charges from an arrest in March 2020 which included driving under the influence and negligent use of a firearm.
