Johnny Manziel Reacts: ‘I see a little of myself in him’ regarding ascending Aggies QB Conner Weigman

Johnny Manziel likes what he sees out of the second year signal caller Conner Weigman.

Texas A&M (2-1) blew the lid off the ULM Warhawks with a 47-3 win at Kyle Field this past Saturday.

The offense is still as good as it was advertised throughout the spring and summer when the players were being interviewed. Conner Weigman has been one of the SEC’s better quarterbacks and has embraced the new offensive strategy of getting the ball downfield. Not only did he throw for 337 yards and a touchdown, he scored once on the ground as well.

Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel attended the game and took a few minutes during the third quarter to talk to the SEC network. After describing what was special during his time at Texas A&M, he was asked what he thought about Conner’s performance so far.

If you put the tape on side by side, it’s obvious that Weigman and Manziel have completely different games. Where they do favor each other are in big play ability and unwavering confidence. Weigman is not as elusive as Manziel (not many are), but he is athletic enough to be a running threat, and as Jimbo put it, he is just a natural football player.

“Conner (Weigman) looks like he belongs playing quarterback. He has great skills, but he’s comfortable. The game makes sense to him. It’s natural to him.”

Weigman will have another opportunity on Saturday to show his growth as a leader and football player when Auburn comes to town.
