Johnny Manziel is trying to become a pro golfer and all I can say is good luck!

Good luck, Johnny!

Johnny Manziel is done with being Johnny Football and is now looking to become Johnny Golf, uh, ball(?) and become a professional golfer.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a professional golfer, right? It’s probably the best job in the world. Play on the best courses, fly private a lot, make lots of money.

What’s not to love!?

Here’s the thing, though – golf is really, really hard for us regular people. And even if you’re good, which Johnny Football is (he lists himself as a scratch golfer, which is really good for normal people), the chances that you can turn that into any type of career on any tour where the players are anything but normal people/golfers is pretty slim. The level of play at all the professional levels is just ridiculously good.

But you know what? I can’t fault the former QB, who the Browns took in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, for going for it. Every weekend hacker (my hand is raised) has at least for a brief moment thought about how much fun it would be to put all your efforts into becoming pro golfer, only to top your next shot and realize that yeah, that dream isn’t for you.

The best thing about this is that Manziel said he’s giving himself 12 years to work on his game and try get to the level where he can play in tournaments. 12 years is a long time! I’d love to have 12 years to just work on my golf game and try to become maybe the best golfer between my friends.

Manziel has other ideas and knows this dream is going to be a tough one to pull off. Again, I can’t hate on him for going for it. I’m extremely jealous of him and the amount of golf he plays and the great courses he plays on. It must be an awesome way to spend your days.

But don’t expect to see him on the PGA Tour anytime soon.

And don’t expect to see him on the Korn Ferry TOUR (the tour right below the PGA Tour) any time soon, either, because the guys on that level could all very well be on the PGA Tour. They are all so stinking good at golf it’s laughable to us normal people.

The PGA Tour has a Monday qualifying event before most tournaments where a ton of professional players play to try to earn a spot in that week’s tournament. Usually if you shoot like a 6-under 66 in that round you’re getting in your car and heading the airport because you ain’t making that tournament. The level of competition at the level is just so silly.

Manziel probably understands all of that and is just looking to have fun playing golf because it is a lot of fun to play.

But getting paid for golf and being able to call it your job is a totally different level.
