The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced its final 10 candidates for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award on Friday. Among the 10 finalists was Auburn superstar center [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag].
The award, which is entering its 10th year of existence, recognizes the best center in the nation each season. Other finalists for the hardware include North Carolina fifth-year center and “Outer Banks” guest star Armando Bacot, Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson, reigning National Player of the Year Zach Edey from Purdue, and Creighton’s Ryan Kalkbrenner. Broome is the lone SEC center to make the final list of 10.
While Purdue’s Zach Edey is on track to become the first repeat winner of the award, the Auburn family can help out their center by voting for him to win on hoophallawards.com. The winner of the fan vote receives the equivalent of one committee vote in the final decision.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a select handful of coaches, media members, and Hall of Famers will cut the list down to five in March before announcing the winner later in the month. The full list of finalists, including a list of past winners, can be found on the award’s website.
