John Lynch misses out on Hall of Fame once again

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety and current 49ers general manager John Lynch missed out on making the Pro Football Hall of Fame again.

I guess seventh time isn’t the charm for former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety John Lynch. The former Super Bowl champion and current general manager of the San Francisco 49ers was one of the 15 modern-era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2020.

Tonight, at the NFL Honors, the new class was announced, with Lynch’s name noticeably absent. The five inductees will be former Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, former Broncos safety Steve Atwater, former Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce, former Seahawks/Vikings guard Steve Hutchinson and former Colts and Cardinals running back Edgerrin James.

Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise for Lynch. If he’s a finalist at next year’s Super Bowl, he’ll find himself in Tampa Bay again, as Super Bowl LV will take place at Raymond James Stadium.

Maybe a return to the bay will bring with it a little luck for Lynch next time around.
