John Johnson is betting he gets the first INT at SoFi Stadium

John Johnson can’t wait to play at SoFi Stadium.

No player on the Los Angeles Rams has more interceptions since 2017 than safety John Johnson. He’s picked off seven passes in the regular season, which is three more than any other current Rams player (Troy Hill). He also added one in the NFC Championship two seasons ago, which helped set up Greg Zuerlein’s game-winning field goal.

Johnson has excellent ball skills for a safety and his seven interceptions are even more impressive when you consider he missed 10 games in 2019. He’ll be back in the mix this season after recovering from shoulder surgery and he can’t wait to take the field at SoFi Stadium.

He toured the building on Thursday and while standing on the field, he made a bet that he’ll pull down the first interception at the Rams’ new home this year.

“I bet you I get the first pick in here. I bet you I get the first pick in here! Bet!” he said emphatically.

The Rams shared another video of Johnson under a picture of himself on the Oculus, with the safety saying, “It’s about to go down in here. It’s going down in here. Come September 13th, Sunday night, you don’t want to miss it.”

Aside from defenders on other teams, Johnson’s stiffest competition for the first pick by a Rams player is undoubtedly Jalen Ramsey and Troy Hill. They’ll be the starting cornerbacks and should get some opportunities early against the Cowboys’ high-flying offense. Taylor Rapp had two interceptions himself last season, too.

Johnson would be a good bet to record the first interception at SoFi Stadium, though, given his track record of pulling down picks. The first quarterbacks on the schedule are Dak Prescott, Carson Wentz, Josh Allen and Daniel Jones.
