John Harbaugh gives Rosengarten a shot at Baltimore’s starting right tackle job

Roger Rosengarten is thriving with the Baltimore Ravens.

Roger Rosengarten should be considered one of the steals of the NFL draft after falling to the Baltimore Ravens at No. 62 overall. The former Washington star is a perfect fit for coach John Harbaugh’s offensive line and has all the potential to be a stalwart tackle in the AFC North for a long time.

His new head coach seems to agree and on Thursday, gave his second-round pick an opportunity to work out with the starters

“Roger’s been doing well and deserved a shot with the ones, you saw him with the ones today,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll just kind of keep working through that and let it play out.”

Rosengarten should be considered the favorite to start at the position as he competes with Patrick Mekari, Corey Bullock, and Danny Simpson for the job, with Mekari as the other top suitor to take the job. Mekari has established himself as a jack-of-all-trades along Baltimore’s offensive line and should prove to be stiff competition for the former four-star recruit, who has impressed his teammates early on in training camp.

“He’s going through the same things any rookie would go through,” All-Pro left tackle Ronnie Stanley said. “He’s adjusting to the speed and learning the new plays and as those things come along, the game will slow down for him, but Roger’s a pro.”

“He definitely belongs in the NFL, I see it in the way he prepares, the way he thinks about the game, his IQ, and in his tenacity, the way he’s not scared to go after blocks and he does it in a controlled way.”
