Joey Slye’s explanation for missing crucial field goal vs. Colts

Joey Slye explains what went wrong on his missed 25-yard field goal attempt against the Colts

New England Patriots kicker Joey Syle explained how he missed a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

He was closer to converting a 68-yard attempt in the fourth quarter and barely missed. However, the 25-yarder wasn’t even close to going through.

Slye has been dependable for most of the season. He has gone 19-of-23 on field goals and 16-of-17 on extra points. So far this season, he has 73 points in total, as he looks to eclipse the 89 points he had with the Washington Commanders last year.

When speaking with media members, Slye chalked the missed field goal up to communication issues, per MassLive’s Karen Guregian.

“I need to be better with my communication on the whole,” Slye said. “To be honest, just kind of a (expletive) situation.”

The missed 25-yard field goal was only one of many things that went wrong for the Patriots against the Colts. Inconsistency and a lack of execution have plagued the team throughout the season, and those same issues reared their ugly head again in Week 13.
