The UNC football program is not only a top-15 team in the country, it also has one of the best and most exciting players in college football.
Quarterback [autotag]Drake Maye[/autotag] has been sensational all season long and is a huge reason behind the success of North Carolina. The Tar Heels sit at 9-1 on the season and Saturday’s win against Wake Forest clinched the ACC Coastal Division and a trip to the ACC Championship game.
On Saturday, Maye passed for 448 yards and three touchdowns through the air. He also added 71 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
That performance was just the most recent terrific outing put together by Maye this season and that continues to have people discussing his potential Heisman candidacy.
FOX analyst Joel Klatt joined the discussion saying Maye is a ‘legit Heisman contender’.
Drake Maye is an absolute stud…Easily a legit Heisman contender…These five (in no particular order) are waging a phenomenal battle this year

On the season, Maye has totaled 3,412 passing yards (3rd in NCAA), 34 passing touchdowns (1st) and just three interceptions. He also has 584 yards on the ground with five rushing touchdowns.
Maye has seven games with 300+ passing yards and seven games with at least three passing touchdowns. Maye has thrown an interception in just two games this year.
There is no question Maye is one of the most important players to his team in the country, if not the most important. He has shown all season that he is also one of the best players in the country. If Maye is not among the group of finalists for the Heisman Trophy, there are some major issues with the award.
