Joel Embiid: Victor Wembanyama ‘going to be a lot of problems’ for NBA

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid said that San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama is going to “be a lot ofo problems” for the league.

As the San Antonio Spurs make their way around the league this season, teams and players are getting their first looks at 20-year-old rookie Victor Wembanyama. The 7-foot-3 (but perhaps taller) big man can do a little bit of everything on the basketball court, and his skillset is unlike anything the league has ever seen.

The Spurs haven’t won many games this season, but they’ve been steadily improving. After a rough start to the season, the Spurs have been much more competitive as of late. They’re competing with some solid teams, and while their most recent loss to the Philadelphia 76ers was a 10-point deficit, they also had to deal with a 70-point showing from Joel Embiid.

But after Embiid was done dominating the Spurs, he had some high praise for Wembanyama, stating that he’ll be a problem for the league.

“Once he develops and his body catches up, he’s going to be a lot of problems for a lot of guys in this league,” Embiid said via Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News.

Wembanyama has put up at least 24 points in each of his last five games, including a 33-point night against the 76ers. And what’s more impressive is the fact that he’s still on a bit of a minutes restriction, playing fewer than 30 minutes on a nightly basis.

Obviously, the Spurs would have liked to be a bit more competitive this season, but this year was always going to be about development over results. And they have a guy who’s clearly capable of leading the franchise into the future.
