PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers were able to come away with a 121-109 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday at home to avenge their loss to these same Hawks on Thursday.
Joel Embiid had a huge night with 42 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, but it was a weird night for him in terms of injuries. The big fella suffered an injury when he fell in the second quarter and he was also grabbing at his shoulder a lot throughout the night.
Afterward, Embiid revealed something that could be concerning going forward.
“I don’t know what happened, but some days, I can’t lift my arm up,” said Embiid. “When I go block shots, I really feel it. I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s whatever.”
While Embiid says he can’t lift his arm, it didn’t seem to affect his scoring too much. He shot 14-for-25 from the floor and he was 13-for-16 from the free-throw line and he had two blocks on the night as well.
As far as the fall in the second quarter, Embiid explained that it was his ankle that was affected. The Sixers have a game on Sunday against the Utah Jazz on the second night of a back-to-back so it remains to be seen if he will play.
“It was my ankle,” he added. “I plan on playing, but I’m gonna see how it reacts tomorrow, but it’s pretty sore. We’ll see.”
When asked directly if he would play on Sunday against the Jazz, the big fella said he would.
“Right now, yeah,” he said. “I plan on playing. We’ll see.”
