Joel Embiid reacts to making Sixers franchise history vs. Pistons

Joel Embiid reacts to making history for the Philadelphia 76ers after a win over the Detroit Pistons.

PHILADELPHIA — The host Philadelphia 76ers cruised to another easy win over the Detroit Pistons, 124-92, on Friday. The game was never really close; they led by as many as 41.

Joel Embiid had another dominant performance. He went for 35 points on 9-for-19 shooting with 13 rebounds in three quarters. The Pistons had no answer for the big fella, who made quick work of Isaiah Stewart and James Wiseman.

In the process, Embiid made franchise history. The reigning league MVP has had 30 points and 10 rebounds in nine consecutive games, a franchise record. He passed Wilt Chamberlain in that category on Friday.

“Obviously, he did a lot of great things with what he was able to accomplish,” Embiid said of the record. “It’s great to be in that class, but I just want to dominate every single night so whatever it takes. Whether it’s scoring, passing. So I was just fortunate to make a couple of shots. Just gotta keep it going.”

Embiid has been playing at a high level all season, but recently, he has taken it to another level. He has thrown the Sixers on his back and made sure they are in the best position to win basketball games.

Plain and simple, he’s been phenomenal.

“Again, continuing to be super aggressive,” acknowledged coach Nick Nurse. “I think he’s continuing to get the ball in areas where he feels really comfortable putting pressure on making them guard him on the drives and at the basket, getting to the free throw line quite a bit.”

Embiid looks to continue his streak when the Sixers pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday.
