Joel Embiid was with the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night after they defeated the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, and although his finger surgery caused him to miss the contest, there was nothing wrong with his eyes.
Somewhere in New York City, Embiid was taking in UFC 246, which was headlined by Conor McGregor taking on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The fight between the two legends has been well-hyped, and the action took place in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena.
For those who don’t follow the sport closely, McGregor, at 31 years old, is one of the more renowned and accomplished MMA fighters in history, while Cerrone, at 36 years old, is the winningest fighter in UFC history.
McGregor entered the contest the heavy favorite, and he certainly didn’t disappoint those who were rooting for him. He secured his first victory in a UFC contest since November 2016 when the referee stopped the fight after just 40 seconds.
Almost immediately following the opening bell, McGregor aggressively attacked Cerrone, and used three consecutive shoulder strikes to break his nose. It was all downhill for the underdog from there.
In the end, McGregor secured the victory and earned himself at least one more huge payday with another fight. Embiid couldn’t help but notice how quickly the bout came to an abrupt conclusion.
“WOW THAT WAS QUICK,” Embiid tweeted immediately after the conclusion of the fight. Although he didn’t explicitly express any disappointment, we could feel it. Fans of the sport — even those rooting for McGregor — probably walked away feeling a bit underwhelmed by the expediency of Cerrone’s demise.

Unlike McGregor, the Sixers couldn’t make quick work of their opponent on Saturday night. They needed some good fortune and a big shot from Tobias Harris to leave Madison Square Garden with a victory.
They’ll spend Saturday night and Sunday night in New York City before doing battle with the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. Unfortunately for Embiid, all he’ll be able to do is watch. We’re pretty sure that he’ll be hoping that his club can make quick work of the Nets on Monday, though.
