The Philadelphia 76ers are in a bit of a rut. They have not been able to really hit their stride and it has cost them some games as they have fallen to the 6 seed in the Eastern Conference. On top of that, superstar big man Joel Embiid is out after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left hand and he will miss some time as he recovers.
Embiid has stayed busy though. He has announced that he will have his first signature shoe that will drop in the Fall of 2020 and he had some time to address some people.
He wrote a piece for The Player’s Tribune and he had a message for everybody doubting this team.
Embiid wrote:
Listen, I know it sucks that I’m out. Nobody feels worse than me about it. But it’s just a finger. It’s nothing. Compared to what I’ve been through, it’s nothing man.
I’m going to be back. And we’re going to get this thing right. And we’re going to be a problem in the playoffs, I promise you. But I have to say it now — the one thing I’m not going to do is change who I am as a basketball player.
The Sixers have championship aspirations, but they will have to gel fairly quickly once Embiid returns from his injury. They won’t have much time to get everything together and on the same page before the playoffs begin on April 18.
One thing is for sure, Embiid is steadfast in his commitment to bring a championship to the City of Brotherly Love.
He added.
I’m done with the trash talking and the memes and all that. Once I’m holding that trophy in my hands, maybe I’ll be back to my charming self. For now, I got one thing on my mind.
I’m not trying to win a debate.
I’m trying to win a f***** title.
