Joel Embiid, Nick Nurse give injury updates after Sixers fall to Knicks

Joel Embiid and coach Nick Nurse gave injury updates after the Philadelphia 76ers fell to the New York Knicks at home.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers got back at it on Friday when they played host to the new-look New York Knicks.

The Sixers entered the night with a 23-10 record, but they fell flat. They led by 10 in the first quarter, but trailed by as many as 39 in a 128-92 loss to the Knicks at home. New York shot 18-for-41 from deep compared to 6-for-23 for Philadelphia on the night.

Joel Embiid kept his streak of 30 points and 10 rebounds alive for his 15th straight such game, but he had an injury scare. He appeared to tweak his knee in the first quarter and it wasn’t a very efficient night for him. He shot 10-for-23.

“I think I should be fine,” said Embiid after the loss. “I think I twisted it a little bit, but I think I’ll be fine.”

The Sixers have a quick turnaround. They will play host to the Utah Jazz on Saturday. When asked if Embiid is expected to play in the contest, coach Nick Nurse simply said: “Yes.”

He was less certain about Tobias Harris, who left at the end of the third quarter due to a left ankle injury. Nurse hopes the reliable forward can play on Saturday.

“They checked him out,” Nurse said of Harris. “He kind of jammed his ankle. X-rays and stuff were negative, but he kind of thinks he’s going to be questionable for tomorrow. I think he says it’s going to be determined on how he wakes up in the morning, but he thinks it’s a reasonable chance that he could play.”

The Sixers and the Jazz will tip off at 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday.
