Joel Embiid happy with Tyrese Maxey’s 10 assists in win over Lakers

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is happy that Tyrese Maxey had 10 assists in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

As the Philadelphia 76ers were able to knock off the Los Angeles Lakers at home on Thursday, they were able to get big performances out of Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris, but they also got a big performance from their young point guard.

Tyrese Maxey finished with 14 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds in the win, and the 10 assists stand out the most as this was Maxey’s first career double-double. It was a night where Maxey was able to do a little bit of everything as he helped Philadelphia in multiple ways.

“It’s funny because I actually mentioned it to him today when I saw it, I was like ‘Thank you for finally being a point guard and passing the ball’,” laughed Embiid. “He’s been doing it all season. It might not show up in the box score, but he’s been getting better as a point guard, just running the team.”

It’s tough for a guy like Maxey to really make strides on this team as he is just a 21-year old filling in as the Ben Simmons saga continues. He is still so young and he needs to learn to balance being a scorer as well as a playmaker and that is tough to do, but he is making the strides as he moves forward.

“A lot of things don’t show up in the box score, but you can see on the floor, he’s learning every single day just calling plays and just getting us into sets and getting guys where they should be,” Embiid added. “I think his growth has been—I’m just excited to be a part of it. So I’m happy every single day, he’s making the strides to just improve in every aspect of his game.”
