Joel Embiid gives praise to Ja Morant, Grizzlies ahead of big matchup

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid gives his praise to Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Philadelphia 76ers will continue their homestand on Monday when they host All-Star Ja Morant and the red-hot Memphis Grizzlies. Morant has been playing excellent basketball, and he has the Grizzlies sitting in third place in the Western Conference.

Morant is averaging 26.1 points, 6.8 assists, and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 49% from the floor and 36.4% from deep on the season. The Grizzlies have been benefitting from his elite play, and they are a confident basketball team entering Philadelphia on Monday.

Sixers star Joel Embiid, a fellow All-Star starter, has been impressed with Morant, but he also gave praise to the entire Grizzlies team as he acknowledged just how good the team really is.

“They got a good team with or without him (Morant),” said Embiid. “Even in the games he missed, they were like 10-2 or something like that, so they got a pretty good team. Obviously, he’s doing great just getting them going offensively, just being aggressive attacking the basket, and knocking down some big shots.”

The Sixers and the Grizzlies played in December, and Memphis won big, 126-91. Neither Embiid nor Morant played, which shows how deep the Grizzlies are.

“To compete against them and get the win, we’re gonna have to do it as a team,” Embiid added. “(Desmond) Bane has been playing great for them this season. They’ve got a couple good players, Jaren Jackson, so we gotta do it as a team, and we gotta worry about all of them.”

The Grizzlies will be a good test for the Sixers to see where they are and how far they still have to go.
