PHILADELPHIA — The short-handed Philadelphia 76ers were hit with another tough loss on Saturday when they found out Tyrese Maxey would miss 3-to-4 weeks with a fracture in his left foot.
This latest injury follows ones to James Harden, Tobias Harris and Furkan Korkmaz.
The loss of that offensive firepower led to a 112-109 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. The Sixers received a big boost from Shake Milton out on the floor, but they certainly missed Maxey and his ability to score and get others involved out on the floor.
Joel Embiid, who had another dominant night with 32 points, nine rebounds, and six assists expressed disappointment for Maxey after the loss.
“It really hit me when I heard the news about him missing some time, too,” said Embiid. “That’s why even starting the game, I really wasn’t in the game to start the game, but that’s why I was trying to really play make and try to get everybody involved and all of that. So, whatever is necessary.”
The Sixers have been dealing with a slew of injuries, but Embiid felt especially bad for Maxey who is one of the hardest workers on the team.
“I just felt bad because you got three of our best players, and Tyrese, someone that puts in so much work every single day,” Embiid added. “That’s why injuries are just, you can’t control it. They’re just unfortunate. I’ve had my share of them. Especially, freak injuries. You just can’t control them.”

Embiid has seen his fair share of injuries, but it was tough for the big fella to see Maxey get hurt considering what he does on a daily basis with his work ethic.
“I just felt bad for him because he puts in so much work and, he takes care of himself,” he finished. “So, obviously, missing James to the same thing and Tobias being hurt, too. It does suck, but it’s next man up.”
