Joel Embiid explains reasoning for ‘shushing’ crowd in win vs. Bulls

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid explains why he shushed the crowd after a win over the Chicago Bulls.

The Philadelphia 76ers continued their home dominance on Sunday night as they knocked off the Chicago Bulls 118-111 to improve to 24-2 at home on the season. Furkan Korkmaz had another big night scoring 31 points, but all eyes were on Joel Embiid.

The big man had 28 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists, but it seemed like it was a subpar night for him overall as Bulls big man Luke Kornet dropped 25 points on him on the other end of the floor. That caused the fans to be upset with a few things as they let him know their frustration with some booing.

Embiid then drilled a big triple late and he put his lips to the crowd to shush them a bit and he also had an interesting message for the fans. If you can read lips, you can figure it out.

After it was all over, Embiid explained why he did so.

“Just talking to myself,” said Embiid. “I have not been playing up to my standards. Even tonight, like tonight I didn’t shoot the ball well and I didn’t play well so just mad at myself. Just frustrated. Just got to get better every single day.”

Embiid later added a more vibrant and colorful answer when he was asked again.

“I don’t care how it looks,” he added. “I’m just playing basketball. Just getting back to myself, just being a good [expletive]. Just playing basketball and just trying to dominate. Thank you.”

Embiid is not the first Sixers player to do this as Al Horford did the same in Friday’s win after receiving some boos from the crowd. It seems that the players are getting a bit frustrated with the treatment from the passionate Philadelphia fan base. [lawrence-related id=25344,25336,25312]
