The Philadelphia 76ers rely so heavily on the play of Joel Embiid to have success on the floor it shouldn’t be much of a surprise when he etches his name next to some of the franchise’s greats.
However, when one thinks about what Embiid is doing at the moment, it makes such milestones much more impressive.
In Tuesday’s 114-109 win over the host Toronto Raptors, Embiid went for 36 points and 11 rebounds. That is the sixth straight road game Embiid has scored 30 or more points.
Embiid is the first Sixers player to do that since Allen Iverson in 2006. Iverson and Wilt Chamberlain are the only other players in team history to do so.
“I’m just happy about the win,” said Embiid. “I feel like the thing that I’m proud of is my defense. I feel like I’ve become an OK scorer. That’s the part that it’s kind of forgotten. I pride myself, and the team really, to get stops especially when we need them, and guard whoever needs to be guarded. That’s the part I’m really proud of.”

The Sixers are 2-0 on this three-game trip, and they wrap it up against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday. They will undoubtedly need another big game from Embiid to get the job done.
That is what the big fella is focused on rather than joining Iverson and Chamberlain.
“I guess that’s great,” he finished. “It’s also great to win with it. I’m just glad we got the win and we got another big one coming up.”
