When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take the field on Sunday afternoon against their NFC South opponents, the Carolina Panthers, they will be without edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.
The Washington Huskies alumnus has been a big part of their rotation along the defensive line, starting every game, but hasn’t been overly productive in what could be his final season in Tampa Bay.
The No. 32 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft hasn’t lived up to the expectations that come with being a first-round pick, which led Tampa Bay to decline the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. This season, he’s tallied 18 tackles, 3 for loss, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble, but did not travel with the team to Charlotte.
Tryon injured his ankle in last week’s 30-7 victory over the New York Giants on the road, and his absence snaps a streak of 62 straight games for the former Husky star, marking the first time in his NFL career that he has been unable to suit up.
Over his four year career, he has tallied 132 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 15 sacks, 8 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles.
