In a bit of news that should surprise nobody, Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon was one of the first members of the team to reach out to No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow.
Mixon — one of the team’s vocal leaders — is one of the guys leading the culture charge for the new-look Bengals.
That apparently includes being first in line alongside guys like Sam Hubbard in welcoming Burrow to Cincinnati after the first pick went official. Burrow revealed the news in a meet with media after getting his call from Zac Taylor.
It’s just another small note on an offseason that has really felt like the start of a new era. The last few months have actually seen significant roster churn while retaining key younger leaders like Mixon before the obvious Burrow pick at No. 1.
Now the well-known swagger of Mixon and the edge Burrow has brought everywhere he goes will lead the Bengals out of the tunnel in 2020, which is about as reassuring as it gets right now.
Joe Burrow said Joe Mixon — of course — was one of the first guys to reach out.
Culture overhaul continues.
