Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon again missed practice Friday.
The day prior, Mixon was again completely absent from practice with what the team had classified as a “minor injury.” A new report revealed Mixon had been dealing with migraines.
Friday’s absence is likely an extension of the same issue, with Jeremy Rauch of Fox 19 reporting Mixon had needed to go to a dentist.
Understandably, speculation ran wild about Mixon’s broader standing with the Bengals. He’s not the type to miss at least being on the sidelines as a leader for his guys — which fueled speculation about his contract situation.
The Bengals and Mixon continue to negotiate an extension for the star running back, which is something the team has said it would like to get done before the regular season.
Realistically, it’s hard to say with certainty what’s really going on behind the scenes here. Mixon’s outright presence at training camp is something to monitor though, especially with Sunday serving as the team’s second scrimmage and the one meant to replicate the all-important third preseason game.
