Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has been keeping busy, having recently discussed his perspective on star point guard Damian Lillard‘s trade to the Milwaukee Bucks and the challenges coaches face in adapting game plans for regular season and playoff matchups on an episode of JJ Redick’s “Old Man and the 3” podcast in between preparation for the season ahead.
Mazzulla emphasized the importance of focusing on one’s own team and not getting distracted by social media chatter about other teams being “scary.” He also highlights the need for coaches to balance analytics with in-game situations and the ability to make adjustments, acknowledging that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to being a successful team. Mazzulla also addresses the trade of Marcus Smart and the challenge of reinventing the team’s defensive identity rather than attempting to replace it.
