Joe Gibbs addresses possible return of No. 18 car in NASCAR Cup Series

Joe Gibbs addresses the possible return of the No. 18 car in the NASCAR Cup Series. Find out what Gibbs had to say about the No. 18 car!

[autotag]Joe Gibbs Racing[/autotag] had the No. 18 car as its original number, but that ended after Kyle Busch left for Richard Childress Racing. Ty Gibbs took over for Busch and rebranded to the No. 54 car. Recently, Chase Briscoe was announced to replace Martin Truex Jr.; however, Joe Gibbs Racing is keeping the No. 19 car over the No. 18 car.

FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass asked Joe Gibbs Racing owner Joe Gibbs if the team considered bringing the No. 18 car back for Briscoe. It doesn’t seem like Joe Gibbs Racing has seriously considered the idea, as the team hasn’t thought through a plan to bring it back yet.

“We’ve always had talks about stuff like that, but I don’t think it fit in this situation because we’re No. 19 now, and [Johnny Morris] loves it, so I think that has a big influence, too,” Gibbs said. “I think somewhere in the future, I guess, we would, but that one I haven’t thought through, I’ll put it that way.”

Joe Gibbs Racing could save the number for Gibbs, but he seems happy to be driving the No. 54 car and creating his own identity. It is weird not to see Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 car on the race track, but it’s not gone for good in the Cup Series. The NASCAR organization can bring it back, but it has to be the right situation for everyone involved.
