Joe Burrow’s hand size is now the dominant early story from combine

The latest Joe Burrow saga is about one measurement.

As the potential No. 1 pick, all the drama centers on Joe Burrow.

The NFL combine is hardly underway from a measurements standpoint and Burrow dominates the conversation because of his hand size.

According to ESPN’s Ben Baby, Burrow’s hands measured at nine inches.

For those familiar with the ceaseless coverage of small details during the combine over the years, that’s indeed a small number for a quarterback. And per Baby, that’s tied for the smallest hand size since 2008 among first-round passers.

Burrow’s measurement ties with notables like Ryan Tannehill and Jared Goff.

The debate now shifts toward whether this matters at all. Some prior looks at the topic suggest hand size equates to better ball security and grip in poor weather conditions.

But surefire proof on the topic is spotty. And for every bad example, there’s Patrick Mahomes, who only checked in at 9 1/4 inches.

The conversation will shift again Tuesday when Burrow meets with the media in the morning.
