In the coming days, Joe Burrow’s comments about the upcoming 2020 NFL draft and the teams picking near the top probably won’t paint the Cincinnati Bengals in a great light.
That’s sort of how it goes for whatever reason. Most recently, Burrow hopped on The Big Podcast with Shaq and said he wanted to go to a good team:
“I just want to be drafted to a good team, good organization that’s going to maximize my talents. I’ve won everywhere that I’ve been and I’ve never had a losing season in sports from the moment I was five years old. I’m not a loser. I just want to go somewhere that I can win. Teams are picking at the top for a reason and I feel, like I said before, I’ve won everywhere that I’ve ever been and I feel like if anybody can do it, I can do it.”
While much of the noise might end up focusing on whether the Bengals are a good team…keep in mind the following point: “…I’ve won everywhere that I’ve ever been and I feel like if anybody can do it, I can do it.”
Burrow knows he’s going to the Bengals. He knows it’s a tall task to turn around the organization. But as anyone who has been around the best prospect to enter the draft since Andrew Luck knows, it’s just in his character to view himself as the guy capable of pulling off the feat.
And for Bengals fans this sure sounds familiar. Carson Palmer has repeatedly said the same thing over the years when asked why he didn’t listen to outsiders telling him not to play for the Bengals — he thrived off the big challenge in front of him.
Since securing the No. 1 pick, every move by the Bengals has been centralized on building the roster around a rookie quarterback contract. The big-money spending to help spur the turnaround is in part a change of pace for the organization.
Meaning, the Bengals are already doing their part to make sure Burrow’s right about his ability to get them back on track.
