Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow took another leap in 2023 and it shows up nicely in the Pro Football Focus grades.
Burrow was one of the highest-graded quarterbacks a year ago. But this year presented new challenges, such as dealing with the burst appendix during training camp and an overhaul of the offensive approach in response to defenses adapting — plus the new offensive line that got off to a rough start.
Even so, Burrow completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 4,475 yards and 35 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, also rushing for five touchdowns.
At PFF, he finished tied with league MVP Patrick Mahomes as the highest-graded quarterback:

Looking at the grades, Burrow finished far behind Mahomes in the “rushing” category (78.0 vs. 89.7), but the rest was enough to pull them even.
Fitting, considering we’re looking at what could be the NFL’s next great rivalry between the teams.
