Is Andy Dalton a fair comparison for Joe Burrow?

In an interesting twist, the man Cincinnati Bengals fans want to replace with Joe Burrow has found himself listed as the best comparison.

And we’re talking about Andy Dalton.

While the Dalton era might be about to give way to the Burrow era, one expert actually lists Dalton as the ideal comp.

The comparison comes by way of NFL.com’s Gil Brandt:

“The comparison to Dalton might seem ironic, given that Bengals fans are likely hoping their team will use the No. 1 overall pick in the draft to land someone who is an upgrade over Dalton, who held down the quarterback position in Cincinnati for the past nine seasons….When I look at Burrow and Dalton, I see similar physical ability, arm strength (where I also see a similarity between Burrow and Peyton Manning) and intelligence, with Burrow possessing an advantage in overall ability. And I think it’s useful to think of Burrow as a souped-up version of Dalton, with the upside to be much more, especially if Cincinnati surrounds Burrow with more talent than Dalton had to work with in recent years.”

Now before anyone gets too upset over this, Brandt is the same expert who previously said Burrow reminds him of Peyton Manning.

And speaking of Peyton Manning, Burrow reached out to him for pre-draft advice.

At this point, the biggest knock on Burrow has been arm strength, but as any expert can attest, it didn’t harm his play at LSU. Everything else about Burrow is above average to elite and he’s probably the best prospect to enter the draft since Andrew Luck.

Whether it’s Dalton, Peyton or somebody else, there’s simply a lot to like about Burrow’s game.
