Joe Burrow says the Bengals aren’t underdogs.

The Super Bowl-bound Cincinnati Bengals don’t lack for confidence in any way, shape or form — and the leadership of Joe Burrow is a big part of that.

So when asked on the sidelines after his team’s AFC championship win over the Kansas City Chiefs if he still believes the Bengals are underdogs, Burrow had a funny answer:

“We beat, in my opinion, the second-best team in the AFC, twice, in January. I think if we didn’t prove it today, I don’t know how else you prove it.”

There are layers to this. Burrow and the Bengals can own the title as best in the AFC outright after winning the conference. And his team has indeed swept the Chiefs this season (as well as the Raiders, Steelers and Ravens).

Of course, Burrow said this with a dash of sarcasm too. The funny side of Burrow meshes with the confident often, like with the viral moment that was his post-game glasses recently.

Overall though, this was the perfect mic-drop moment for a team whose season-long slogan went from “Why not us?” to “It is us” pretty quickly.
