Joc Pederson tried to dab on the Rockies, and it didn’t go very well

Joc had to do it to ’em.

Joc Pederson is one of baseball’s eccentric personalities, gaining widespread fame during the Atlanta Braves’ World Series run last fall for his trademark pearl necklace and increasing it when he was part of an on-field altercation in May in which he was slapped by Reds outfielder Tommy Pham during batting practice.

Pederson later stated that the incident stemmed from a fantasy football dispute.

This guy is just a magnet for intrigue, so if anyone could resurrect the dying meme that is the dab, it’s him. Right?

Eh.

After a hard-hit single to right field in the top of the first during Friday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Pederson — who now plays for the San Francisco Giants — took the opportunity to put Colorado in its place. Sort of.

You know what? I love this.

Say what you will about the quality of the dab — it could have been executed better. But you have to respect Pederson, who knows no shame and went in for the second dab even after the first was less than ideal.

That’s the kind of confidence one can only admire.

Unfortunately, Pederson’s energy wasn’t matched by the rest of the roster as San Francisco lost 7-4 to a Rockies team with a 52-69 record. The loss drops the Giants below .500 in the challenging NL West.

A Wild Card bid may not be in the cards as Pederson’s team sits 5.5 games out of the third and final spot, but he’s still bringing the heat to the ballpark every single night.
