J.J. Watt signing 2-year deal with Arizona Cardinals

The Packers won’t be signing coveted free agent defensive lineman J.J. Watt, who is headed to the Cardinals.

Coveted free agent defensive lineman J.J. Watt has agreed to sign with the Arizona Cardinals.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year announced his decision with a tweet from his official account on Monday. In the photo, Watt is squatting while wearing a Cardinals shirt.

The decision ends weeks of speculation and rules out the Green Bay Packers as a landing spot for one of the game’s top defensive players.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Watt agreed to a two-year deal worth $31 million. It includes $23 million guaranteed.

The Houston Texans released Watt last month. The Packers were widely believed to be one of the favorites to sign the Wisconsin native, but the Cardinals offered a contract the Packers probably couldn’t come close to matching.

Watt will join a Cardinals team featuring young quarterback Kyler Murray and former Texans teammate DeAndre Hopkins. Arizona finished 8-8 and in third place in the NFC West a year ago.
