The Miami Heat are not in the business of moral victories at this point of the season but the play of rookie Tyler Herro throughout the playoffs has certainly been an intriguing development for the organization.

Herro is averaging 16.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists during the playoffs and 17.3 points in the NBA Finals. He became the sixth rookie in NBA history to surpass 300 points in a single postseason and he has hit the most 3-pointers (45) in the playoffs by a rookie.

The 20-year-old scored 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists during the Heat’s Game 4 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers but he once again hit some clutch shots in the game. Herro scored 12 points alone in the fourth quarter and helped keep the Heat around until the final minute.

Herro has stepped up at various points for the Heat and his play hasn’t gone unnoticed by his teammates. Jimmy Butler was asked about Herro following Game 4 and he once again had high praise for him.

I think he’s been playing incredible. He’s making all the right decisions, he’s taking all the right shots, he’s just out there playing carefree, as he should. We want him to stay aggressive, be aggressive and continue playing the best version of basketball that he has. He’s been helping us all year long, he’s going to continue to help us, and I tell him, keep going, always keep going, if you make a mistake, forget about it, get back and let’s try to run the next play.

After falling behind 3-1 to the Lakers in the NBA Finals, the Heat will need to regroup and prepare for Game 5. Miami played well enough to win on Tuesday but was unable to make enough plays late in the game to pull ahead and even the series.

Now, for the first time this postseason, the Heat will be facing elimination in Game 5. The Heat haven’t faced an elimination game so it will be worth monitoring how they come out of the gate with their season on the line.

Game 5 is set to tip-off on Friday at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
