ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The one thing Michigan football could least afford, other than a loss in Week 12, was an injury to its Heisman Trophy candidate. Yet, that’s exactly what happened.
Near the end of the second quarter, the Wolverines were driving and appeared poised to score when running back Blake Corum gained the edge and a seeming first down deep in the red zone. However, Corum got a helmet to the knee, which he grabbed immediately as he went down. He headed straight to the locker room, but came back out early in the second half. He didn’t play much at that point, so there are obvious concerns.
But what did Jim Harbaugh say about the injury after the game? Initially, not much.
“Nothing right now,” Harbaugh said as far as an update is concerned.
“Got cleared to go back in and we’ll see where it is tomorrow how it feels tomorrow. Structurally good. Which is great news.”
Considering Corum played just one drive before going out again, was it precautionary or did he reaggravate the knee he just injured? It appears to be a little bit of both, Harbaugh said.
“I just thought it was bothering him,” Harbaugh said. “Yeah, so we said ‘OK, well, we know you want to keep going but,’ he communicated with us. How’s it feel? And that’s all right. We got C.J. Stokes. We got Isaiah Gash. We got Tavi Dunlap. They’ll step up, next man up. Blake was coaching those guys and motivating them. It was good. That’s the kind of team it is. Nobody panicked.”
We’ll see if Corum, as well as several others who were either held out or limited on Saturday suit up against Ohio State.
