Jets still have tiny chance of making the playoffs

New York is still mathematically in the postseason hunt.

Making the playoffs in 2020 is pretty much out of the question for the Jets after their 0-6 start, but New York is still mathematically in the postseason hunt.

According to Football Outsiders, New York has a 0.4% chance of making the plays following its latest loss to the Dolphins. Prior to their 24-0 defeat against Miami, the Jets had a 1% chance of qualifying for postseason play. Football Outsiders gives the Jets a 0.2% of winning the AFC East, a 0.2% chance of locking down a wild card spot and has Gang Green on pace to win 3.4 games.

While New York’s chances of making the playoffs are next to none, it is firmly in the running for a first-round draft slot that could do wonders for the franchise. Football Outsiders gives the Jets a 37.4% chance of landing the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft — the best odds of any team in the league right now with Washington being the closest at 13.2%. Even if New York misses out on the top pick, it has an 82% chance of netting a top-five selection.

The Jets’ 2020 season has been nothing short of a disaster, with all of their losses coming by at least two possessions. Under Adam Gase’s watch, New York ranks 30th in the NFL in total yards per offense per game and its defense is allowing more than 30 points per game so far this season.
