Jets rule out QB Mike White vs. Jaguars, QB Zach Wilson to start

The meeting of the Jaguars and Jets will officially be the No. 1 pick of 2021 vs. the No. 2 pick.

The Thursday night meeting of the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets will pit the No. 1 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft against the No. 2 overall pick.

Jets coach Robert Saleh made that official Tuesday when he ruled out quarterback Mike White and announced Zach Wilson will start instead against the Trevor Lawrence-led Jaguars.

It’s not the first meeting of Lawrence and Wilson, who played against each other in Week 16 of the 2021 season. The Jets got the better of that contest, winning 26-21. Wilson threw for just 102 yards in the win, but ran for 91 yards, including a 52-yard rushing touchdown early in the game. Lawrence finished with 280 passing yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.

On Tuesday, the Jaguars’ injury report didn’t look much different than the day prior. The only changes were that Lawrence and Brandon Scherff both returned to practice on a limited basis after sitting out Monday.

With White officially ruled out, the most notable injuries to monitor ahead of Thursday are the ankle injury for Jaguars defensive lineman Folorunso Fatukasi and the calf injury for Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams.

Williams, who leads the Jets with 11 sacks and appears likely to earn his first Pro Bowl nod, has been limited in back-to-back practices, but will be a game time decision, according to Saleh.
