Jets rookie Denzel Mims: Philadelphia is a “dirty a**, trash a** city”

It’s no secret that Denzel Mims has little affection for the City of Brotherly Love.

It’s no secret that Denzel Mims has little affection for the City of Brotherly Love.

Back when Mims was going through the pre-draft process and receiving interest from the Eagles, he told The Birds podcast about his first trip to Philadelphia. Usually, prospects offer up empty platitudes prior to the draft, especially when asked to picture themselves playing in certain cities. Mims, who hails from the small town of Daingerfield, Texas, gave his honest opinion, however, admitting that he saw “a lot of people that look scary” in Philly.

Now Mims is a member of the New York Jets after being selected in the second round, which means he will have to play in a major market. The Baylor product hasn’t voiced any issues about his new home, but he’s still not a fan of Philadelphia.

While chatting with Philly Birds Only, Mims’ pre-draft comments on the city were brought up. The rookie wide receiver responded by saying “I didn’t like that dirty a**, trash a** city.”

Whatever Mims’ issue with Philadelphia is, it’s obvious that he’s happy he didn’t end up there. It could have happened, though, as the Eagles held the 53rd pick in the second round of the draft. They, however, took Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts before the Jets used the 59th pick on Mims.

The question now is whether or not the Jets will play their regular preseason game against the Eagles this summer. This year’s exhibition was set to take place in Philadelphia during Week 4 of the preseason, but it remains to be seen what a shortened preseason will look like due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s safe to say that Mims would prefer that trip to Philly gets canceled, though.
